Igbo queen cries out for prisoners

For the reigning Most Beautiful Igbo Girl, Adandiigbo Chisom Ibe, prisons were designed to be correctional facilities and not breeding ground for hardened criminals.
According to the beauty queen, who paid a humanitarian visit to the Port Harcourt prisons recently, prisons should be basically correctional and suspended sentences proffered for minor offences.
She said: “This will entail exchanging prison sentence with community service, and a reprimand that will make the convict serve the full sentence if the crime is repeated within a specified time.”
Chisom explained further: “There are too many cases of people who have spent more time in custody than the actual sentence if they have been sentenced on conviction.”
The queen was shown round the prison’s carpentry workshop and other facilities after which she reassured the inmates of God’s purpose for them. Chisom then presented both cash and material gifts that included bags of rice, cartons of Indomie and sanitary items to the prison authorities.
The Deputy Comptroller General, Mr. Adams Ademola thanked the queen for remembering the inmates and expressed his joy for her visit. He also appealed for assistance in the procurement of tools needed in the workshop, which included sewing and spraying machines, generator, ripping saws and try squares that will enable inmates to learn life long skills that will aid them in adapting to life outside the prison walls.
But then Chisom promised to reach out to the larger society for assistance in this regard.
