PRESS RELEASE:
Preparations are in top gear for Adandiigbo Cultural Pageants induction ceremony, this event is planned to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Ndigbo, it is a harvest of Igbo arts and culture at the upcoming induction ceremony. The upcoming event will witness the formal induction of Miss Onyeka Odumegwu, who won the position of Adandiigbo at the hotly contested event in Owerri. The activities also includes the induction of the various ada’s representing the various Igbo states. It is an out-coming and meet the people event.
This is with the aim of fulfilling the objectives of identifying things that brings us together as a coherent and integral culture group with a distinct attribute and highlighting this unique paraphernalia in the face of contemporaneous debilitating influence of western culture and its eroding effect. Our vision is to provide a veritable platform to celebrate Ndigbo socio-cultural heritage that make us distinct as a people.
In 2004, the Adandigbo (Most Beautiful Igbo Girl)beauty pageant debuted as a high profile; non-swimsuit beauty pageantry designed to celebrate and promote the beauty and virtues of Igbo young women. It is in recognition of the symbolic role of the Ada (first daughter) in the traditional society which attracts a lot of social responsibility and respect. It behooves on them to act in ways that tend to promote, project and protect their rich cultural heritage, which embodies fashion, entertainment, beauty preservation and moral integrity. This is why right from onset we have rotated the event amongst Igbo states so that the contestants will be made to be aware of the peculiarities of the host state and our shared value system.
This reputable beauty pageant had its debut at the All Seasons Hotel, Owerri in 2005 and was won by Ndidamaka Nwakwu. The second edition took place at the exquisite Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt in 2006 and was won by Onyinye Nwosu and the third edition won by Chisom Ibe took place at the prestigious The Balmoral event place in Lagos and the journey continued to Enugu State at the serene environment of the Protea Hotel Nike Lake Resort where Uche Umunnakwe won the fourth edition in November, 2008. The 5th edition was held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Government House, Abia State and Miss Chinasa Okorie won the coveted crown in 2009.
The success of this induction event would no doubt keep Igbo culture refreshingly alive and makes it a resounding tourist attraction and destination for all. It highlights all the facets of Igbo life and conviviality and uniqueness of our rich cultural heritage that rekindles old glamour and sets their passion aglow and regenerates the pride and trust of being Igbo.
We assure our audience of our unrelenting efforts to highlight and entertain the masses to the tastes, sights and sounds that are uniquely and proudly Igbo.
Igbo kwenu!!!
